A painting by Goya entitled 'A Picnic], made in 1785-90

A Zoffany picnic and a Summer concert [Garrick's Temple]

Saturday 06 June 2026
13:00 to 21:00

A day of Georgian culture inspired by the newly-restored paintings by Zoffany inside Garrick's Temple.

Have you ever wanted to learn some of the elegant Georgian dances depicted in paintings or seen in period dramas? Here is your chance: Mrs Bennet will lead and teach Georgian dances during the afternoon, and The Capability Consort will accompany the dancing and play trios by Haydn and Oswald during the evening.

The dance sessions will take place on the Lawns outside the Temple, either side of a picnic, and a dance ticket will include attendance at one of Mrs Bennet's classes either in Surbiton [27th. May] or St Pancras [10th. May], with sources of Georgian clothing recommended [dressing for the day is encouraged!]. Dancing will be accompanied by The Capability Consort.

The evening concert [inside the Temple] will include Haydn's London trios and Summer airs by James Oswald. Tickets are available for this separately, but for those who want to enjoy a whole Georgian day there is a joint ticket for both dancing and listening.

You will need to bring your own picnic, and food and drink is available from a local pub between the dancing and concert. Drinks will be served during the interval at the concert.
