The rivalry between the viol and the early cello, described by Hubert Le Blanc in 1740 in 'Défense de la basse de viole contre les enterprises du violon et les prétentions du violoncelle' in which instruments and styles of music are alotted allegorical protagonists.

Dan Tidhar - Harpsichord

 

The two musicians will illustrate the differing qualities of these instruments in music by Vivaldi, Marais, Couperin and others. 

 

Admission on the door costs £16, but advance booking is cheaper [£14; £8] and advisable for this small venue: you can do so HERE.

The musicians will introduce themselves, the music and the instruments - anyone able and willing to listen is welcome to attend, whether or not they are familiar with the programme.
